Here’s a car with lots of history! This stunning 1935 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Pescara Spyder (pictured) belonged to Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and is going under the hammer at Cheltenham Racecourse on 27 February.

The car was built to the exact specifications of the notorious Italian leader, including an engine tuned to deliver 95bhp instead of the standard 68bhp. The car also raced in 1936’s Mille Miglia – driven by Mussolini’s chauffeur. The two-seater is expected to fetch ÷£600,000 to ÷£800,000. Also up for auction are two works Minis driven by Paddy Hopkirk, and a Colin McRae works Subaru.

Aygo special is a shining star

Available from January, it has full Alcantara and leather upholstery, a hide-trimmed steering wheel and gearknob, and 14-inch alloy wheels. There’s also an exclusive shine to the bodywork, thanks to a Crystal Silver metallic paintjob.

The car comes with a 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol engine, returning 61.4mpg and emitting a tax-busting 109g/km of CO2. Prices start at ÷£7,995 for the three-door, rising to ÷£8,245 for the five-door.

Awards double for Auto Express

Auto Express scooped a brace of accolades at the prestigious

Guild of Motoring Writers’ annual awards. Consumer editor Kim Adams won the Automotive PR Consumer Journalist of the Year Award for his Total Tyre Guide.

Regular Auto Express contributor Sarah Bradley was also recognised at the event, held at the RAC Club in Pall Mall, London. She won the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ Safety Award for an article that revealed how much easier it is for drivers to spot broken-down motorists at the roadside if they are wearing a high-visibility vest.
