With the official unveiling of Volkswagen"s long anticipated sports car model delayed until at least the Detroit Motor Show, car fans at this week"s Los Angeles Motor Show could be forgiven for feeling left out.

However, the more observant among them may have noticed that VW did have something on display after all!

Broadcast to the crowd on a huge TV screen was a special film that included a section on the development of new cars. Though detail on the models was scarce, four new concepts, of which just one has been shown so far were shown as basic computer illustrations.

The segment was cut with footage of young children designing the cars of their dreams, suggesting that although VW Is keen on many of the ideas shown, they are also ideas that are at a very early stage.

First to appear was a model called the One... A three wheel two seater in the mold of the now shelved VW trike concept. Next came the Ego, a kind of small coupe with an unusual rear.

Following the Ego was an illustration of the well known UP!, which itself was followed by a similar, but clearly larger model, called the Room.

While VW made little official mention of the four models, the German firm didn"t deny their existence either. We will have more on this story as it develops.
