With its 243bhp supercharged 1.8-litre engine, it can go from 0-60mph in less than four seconds. But if that"s too fast for you, don"t worry - the Norfolk-based firm will also offer a normally aspirated 190bhp version when sales begin next summer.

The composite-bodied roadster has a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox and is based on the lightweight Elise. In order to reduce drag, the 650kg machine has no windscreen or side-mounted air intakes to further boost aerodynamics.

In its most powerful form, the Toyota-derived VVTL engine gives a Ferrari-frightening power-to-weight ratio of 373bhp per tonne. Fully independent suspension featuring adjustable dampers ensure sharp handling, and there"s even a rear wing and underbody diffuser to create downforce.

Prices are expected to start at í‚á£25,000, with around 100 vehicles being built every year. In standard form the car is a single-seater, but it can also be specified with two chairs.
