One in 10 motorists is still ignoring the ban on driving and using a hand-held mobile phone, says a new survey by insurer Green Flag. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has called on the police to take much stronger action against the law-breakers, so that motorists get the message.

Governing body the FIA has signed off new regulations to be phased in from the start of 2008. These include a dramatic reduction in aerodynamics, the introduction of energy recovery devices and the possible use of bio-fuels.

What"s the performance...

What"s the performance car badge to watch out for in 2007? That"ll be VXR8. While Vauxhall is yet to officially announce the name of its new V8-powered sports model, Auto Express has learned that the firm"s replacement for the Monaro coupé will be called the VXR8.

Driven in Holden Commodore SS V guise in Issue 942, the new model will be a modified version of the Australian saloon. The VXR8 will produce around 400bhp in entry-level form, with tuned variants offering even more power. On sale in the summer, the four-door is expected to cost from around ÷£35,000.
