The first flexi-fuel...
The first flexi-fuel cars have arrived in Britain. The fleet of eco-friendly Ford Focus FFVs are powered by bio-ethanol produced from wheat. Forty vehicles will run on locally grown crops as part of the Somerset Biofuel Project. Special refuelling points are also being constructed in the area, although the í‚á£14,095 cars can also use conventional petrol.
What a load of rubbish!...
What a load of rubbish! The worldò€™s biggest industrial shredder, which can chew up an amazing 450 scrap cars an hour, has been installed at the Associated British Ports terminal in Newport, Wales.
The Ò£10million mega-machine can process up to 350 tonnes of metal an hour. And it is so large that it has to be plugged directly into the National Grid to draw sufficient power.
Plastics, rubber, carpet fibre and glass from vehicles are automatically separated, so they can be sent away to be recycled. The remaining metal is then shredded to be sold around the globe.
