We"ve already taken...

We"ve already taken the wraps off the new Megane – and now, we can bring you spy shots of it testing on the road for the first time.

Behind the disguise of this prototype lies a head-turning new look for the Ford Focus rival. Inspired by the latest Laguna, with detailing from the Mégane Coupé concept displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the car is set to be one of the boldest in the class. Even the five-door spied here will have a distinctive panoramic glass roof, while flagship editions get an upmarket interior, complete with silver-rimmed instruments, keyless go and sat-nav.

The three-door will have an even sportier appearance, with a sharply rising window line and a tapered roof. Engine options will be carried over from the current Mégane line-up, with the range being topped by a 230bhp turbo Renaultsport hot hatch. The new Mégane will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October, with UK sales starting in 2009.
