Unveiled at the Frankfurt...
Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the drop-top "entry-level" model gets an electric folding roof just as impressive as its performance. At the push of a button on the dash, the slatted carbon fibre engine cover opens and out comes the fabric top. It"s quick too, raising or dropping in only 20 seconds.
To ensure the handling remains as good as the coup탩"s, Lamborghini has strengthened the sills and A-pillars. Wind buffeting is reduced by an electric glass screen behind the seats. Safety levels are high, thanks to protective bars which pop up over occupants" heads in the event of a rollover accident.
The roof isn"t the only thing going up; the Spyder gets the 520bhp version of Lamborghini"s 5.0-litre V10 from the forthcoming Gallardo SE. That"s 28bhp more than the standard car delivers. It means a top speed of 195mph - only available with the roof up - and a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds. On sale next spring, the Spyder will cost í‚á£130,000.
