They don’t want...

They don’t want you to ‘C’ it, but this week the mag has the best pictures yet of Mercedes’ next-generation mid-range estate. Auto Express can reveal how the stylish new load-lugging C-Class will look after our spies snapped a barely disguised prototype testing in Stuttgart, Germany.

The newcomer gets a sporty tapering roofline, rather than the existing car’s upright rear end. At the front, the S-Class-inspired grille will give the smaller model a smart look, while the hexagonal tailgate provides easy access to the boot. A more luxurious interior is promised, too, as Mercedes attempts to win sales from the BMW 3-Series.

Performance fans will be offered a quick AMG version, but most buyers will choose from a range of fresh six-cylinder engines, as well as the maker’s impressive CDI diesels. The new C-Class is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next autumn before going on sale late in 2007.
