Itò€™s been a long time...
Itò€™s been a long time in the making, but finally Arashò€™s AF-10 has arrived. First unveiled at the British Motor Show back in 2006, the original prototype has had to overcome its share of problems as well as numerous revisions to get where it is today but that is all in the past now.
Then you need the Road...
Then you need the Road Angel Navigator 9000! The maker claims that the GPRS mobile phone technology it uses will ensure that you have up-to-date traffic, weather and speed camera information, and will even alert you to the presence of mobile camera vans.
But is this just marketing hype? The first thing you notice is how heavy the unit is compared with rivals from the likes of TomTom. Road Angel says this is because the device has lots more technology.
When switched on, the unit picked up a satellite signal in seconds. And planning your route is child’s play, because the Navigator 9000 recognises a full postal code search.
The mapping is really clear on the four-inch screen, making street names straightforward to read, and it allows you to switch from 3D to 2D. The kit behaved really well on our route, apart from one blip – it persistently told us there was a mobile camera van on the road when there wasn’t. And be careful to read the small print when buying, as the updates to camera location data, traffic and weather forecast information cost ÷£5.99 per month.
