The stunning coupé won"t be built for sale, yet the forthcoming 9-5 will share the Aero X"s look, four-wheel-drive technology, bio-ethanol turbocharged engine and twin-clutch semi-automatic gearbox.
The revelation was made at the Geneva Motor Show, where a spokesman said: "The Aero X is purely a concept and won"t go into production until we start making more money. But the fuselage shape and frontal aspect show how new saloons will look." That means the next 9-5, due in 2008, will debut the fresh design, followed by a facelifted 9-3.
Under the skin, the bio-ethanol powered 2.8-litre turbo V6 will appear on future models. The all-wheel-drive system and seven-speed VW DSG-style box will also be used on high-power turbos in the next few years.
