The problem is caused...

The problem is caused by anti-copying security codes written on to the CDs, which can make them unreadable by certain in-car head units. We were alerted to the problem by reader Peter Wright from Halifax, West Yorkshire.

He said: "My daughter thought the CD player in her year-old Volkswagen Golf was broken because it wouldn"t play the Dido album or three other BMG discs she"d just bought. Afterwards, we noticed a small warning printed on the back of the CD case, but it"s very hard to spot." He added that there was no way music fans could be sure a new disc would work in their car.

"The discs play fine in my son"s Porsche Boxster, although not in his Land Rover Freelander," Peter told us. A BMG spokesman said: "The security is new and there have been problems." He added that customers who"d bought duff CDs could get a refund from their retailer or visit www.bmg-copycontrol.info for help.
