The premiere of the diesel Discovery at the Birmingham NEC next month will be accompanied by the Freelander Rally show car. Based on the rally-styled model which took part in the facelifted 4x4"s launch last year, it will have a sporty interior. A spokesman said: "If the public reaction is good, it could be put into production."

Land Rover has also teamed up with American Express to turn Hall Three into an off-road centre. Cardholders will be taken for rides on the course.
