Looking every inch the baby Astra with its distinctive C-pillar and tall roof-line, the supermini promises to rival Fiat"s Grande Punto in the style stakes. Its bold design is framed at the front by sporty lights and a wide grille, while those curves are mirrored by the tail-gate and a lower back bumper. Large, distinctive lamps finish off the rear.

The most significant...

The most significant changes to the range involve the XC70 soft-roader. It gets a revised mesh grille similar to that of its bigger off-road brother, the XC90. Platinum-grey lower-body trim at the front and rear is new, as are the alloys.

These styling changes will further distinguish the XC70 from the rest of the V70 line-up. And the standard estate is also getting a new, but different, front end. Its grille is now angled more steeply to match the profile of the headlamps. New tail-light clusters and body-coloured bumpers all-round complete the visual changes. The updates will be complemented by an all-new range of alloy wheels and paint colours.

Interior improvements include a simplified centre console, with new stereo and climate control buttons. The front seats have been modified to provide more comfort, while Volvo"s Blind Spot Information System will be offered as an option. This innovative device uses digital cameras in the door mirrors to warn drivers when there is a vehicle in their blind spot, lighting a warning triangle in the mirror. The new-look V70 goes on sale in the UK in July, with prices of all models set to rise by í‚á£400-í‚á£900.
