Minister for Science and Innovation, Malcolm Wicks, said: "There is an 85 per cent target to recover scrap cars, and free take-back will help us achieve it." The load-luggers, penned by Luigi Colani, are on display at The Road Ahead - a vehicle design competition and expo being held in London"s Dray Walk Gallery between 11 and 19 February.
The event is intended to encourage designers to create "the luxury vehicle of the future". Other exhibits on show include the Rolling Bird motorbike, which features hubless wheels, and the Z Car from award-winning architect, Zaha Hadid, who designed part of the BMW factory in Leipzig, Germany, and the "Mind Zone" section in London"s Millennium Dome.
A spokesman for the event said: "Everybody has a James Bond-type fantasy of driving a concept car. The Road Ahead seeks to turn that into reality. The exhibition will provide a feast for the eyes of car lovers."
