The Ford Mondeo rival...

The Ford Mondeo rival will come in an estate bodystyle only, and will sell on its practicality. Fiat says it"s on average 10cm taller than rivals, allowing the seats to be set higher and with more space between the front and rear rows. This should give the Croma impressive interior room.

Another MPV feature is the flat floor, with a hidden storage space beneath. The ignition key is located between the front seats. When the car goes on sale next year, five engines, including a pair of petrols, will be available. The latter get five-speed manual gearboxes, while the diesels will have six-ratio units.

The flagship 200bhp 2.4-litre oil-burner will only come with the sequential automatic, which is an option on other models. Seven airbags are standard-fit, with as many as nine available in total.
