The 150bhp 1.6-litre...

The 150bhp 1.6-litre petrol model goes on sale here in the summer. But, according to Derrick Kuzak, European vice president of product development, an ST TDCi is on the way. "If you look at our rivals, a diesel performance Fiesta is a logical progression," he said.

VW sells more Golf GT TDIs than petrol variants, while Skoda and SEAT both have diesel-only hot hatches. The Fiesta will be powered by an engine from the new range co-developed by Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroen. It"s likely to be a version of the 1.6-litre used in the C-MAX, Peugeot 307 and Citroen Picasso. In the ST TDCi, it could develop 130bhp.
