It"s four decades since...

It"s four decades since Mazda first fitted a rotary engine to one of its cars, and to celebrate, the firm has built this RX-8 Rotary Engine 40th Anniversary. The marble white model has uprated suspension, special badges, 18-inch chrome wheels and a unique black and silver Alcantara cabin. Its colours pay homage to the 1967 Cosmo Sport – the company’s first ever rotary-engined car. Only 200 are being made and they are earmarked for sale in Japan, although buyers in the UK may be able to get their hands on one through a specialist importer.

Tenders have been received...

Tenders have been received from Birmingham"s NEC, plus Earls Court and the ExCeL centre, both in London. Proposals from Silverstone, Northamptonshire, and the Goodwood race circuit in West Sussex never materialised. So the trio of contenders will pitch their ideas to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which puts on the exhibition, later this month.

A decision is expected early next year. An SMMT representative said: "We"re looking for a venue that"s going to attract visitors. It needs to reflect the glitz and the glamour of the event." The NEC is the expo"s traditional home, while Earls Court has motor show pedigree in its favour. ExCeL - in the heart of the capital"s Docklands - has never hosted the international automotive show, but the SMMT spokesman denied that would count against it.
