She was stunned when a letter arrived from the local council suggesting the move would aid motorists pulling out of a blind corner next to her boozer. It also asked her to take down any notices in the window, as they blocked the view, too.

Sue, of the George and Dragon in Aldbrough, East Yorks, told Auto Express: "At first I thought it was a wind-up, but there"s no doubt the junction is an accident waiting to happen." She said the curtains are usually closed to keep the heat in and deter burglars, but from now on she"ll leave them open.

However, the letter has prompted locals to start a petition asking for proper traffic calming to be installed. Clerk to Aldbrough council Patricia Auty said: "When you"ve got people complaining about this, the parish council has to be seen to be doing something. It"s just an idea that someone has had."
