SEAT gave the all-new Ibiza its world debut at the Madrid Motor Show. Bosses took the wraps off the supermini at the Spanish brand’s home event, alongside a low emission version of the Alhambra MPV.
The five-door Ibiza will hit UK showrooms in July priced from around ÷£9,000, and the three-door SportCoupé will follow in the autumn. And British car fans will be the first to see it, because the sporty model will make its official debut at British Motor Show in London this summer.
The Ibiza is the first car to use VW Group’s new small car platform, codenamed BQ35, which will also provide the basis for the next generation VW Polo and the new Audi A1.
The new Ibiza line-up will include hot FR and Cupra models, as well as a low CO2 ECOmotive variant. The sporty versions will arrive next year and are expected to use VW’s clever turbo and supercharged 1.4-litre TSI engine. The ECOmotive model will feature an economical diesel tuned to deliver fewer than 100g/km of CO2.
The green Alhambra ECOmotive features a range of revisions to trim emissions and boost economy. They include tweaked gear ratios, low rolling resistance tyres and a remapped ECU for the 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI engine. The result is CO2 emissions of 159g/km.
It will go on sale in July priced at around ÷£19,200 – which is just ÷£350 more than the standard 2.0-litre TDI Reference.
