Trimming hedges could be a thorn in the side of local councils - after a motorist successfully sued when chopped brambles punctured his tyres. Steve Crow from Darlington, County Durham, claims he asked his local authority to remove the refuse, but it didn"t. Lawyers believe other drivers could take similar action.

The firm"s network of stop-overs is introducing the "Cuddillow" - the UK"s first cuddling cushion, created following a customer survey. Researchers found 57 per cent of its guests felt lonely sleeping without their partners, and more than a quarter had to hug a pillow to help nod off. As a result, the firm developed the metre-long two-armed bedding. The pillows are being trialled at hotels in Durham, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, and will go nationwide if successful.

Production of the sporty MG TF was due to begin in the West Midlands at the same time as the first MG7 saloon rolled off the line at the Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) plant.

However, the Birmingham facility"s output has now been put on hold for at least another month after last-minute changes to NAC"s worldwide production plans. The news also coincides with reports that the company has asked the Chinese Government for a further ÷£200million of investment cash.

Yet sources claim there is no cause for alarm, and it is understood that plans to open both Longbridge and a site in the state of Oklahoma in the US are still ongoing. The revival of the British brand in China represents four years of hard work, and makes it the nation"s first truly international, prestigious car manufacturer. But it has been two years since any models were built at the Longbridge plant, and this is the second time a start date has been cancelled.

In America, there"s been virtually no movement on the TF Coupé; the car has been eagerly awaited since it was announced at the end of 2006.
