The car was revealed as a concept at last month"s Frankfurt Motor Show, and first versions are tipped to go on sale early next year. Powered by a 200bhp 2.0-litre engine, the Clio lacks the outright punch of VW"s Golf GTI and the Vauxhall Astra VXR, but Renault says the new RS"s blend of light weight and outright grip means it should deliver a seven second 0-60mph time and 150mph top speed.

More than five million Transits have been sold since its launch in 1965, with nearly 1.5 million put to work in the UK. Designed and built in Britain, the latest model is the most visually striking yet. Buyers will have the choice of seven all-new engines, including six diesels - developed in conjunction with PSA Peugeot Citroen. There"s a more comfortable interior, improved controls and extra safety kit, including Electronic Stability Protection, anti-lock brakes and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
It will also offer the industry"s first configurable unlocking security system so that the driver can open doors in a particular order. Prices for the new range have yet to be revealed, but expect a slight increase on the current model. The NEC show runs from 25-27 April.
