And although many firms have shrouded their plans in secrecy, Auto Express can reveal the expected highlights in this A-Z guide. We kick off with Audi, a guaranteed star of 2008. The firm has said it will show two new cars, the first tipped to be a hot version of the TT, possibly badged RS. There’s no official word on the second debutant, but speculation suggests it could be an evolution of the R8 powered by a V12 diesel.

BMW will show off its X6 crossover SUV, the 1-Series Convertible and a range of diesel engines which are tuned to meet US emissions laws. Chrysler will present its new electric ecoVoyager MPV, while Ferrari’s star is a biofuel-compatible evolution of the F430. Highlights from Ford include a new small car. Land Rover will also be there with its LRX concept, a compact 4x4 designed for urban environments. Lexus is showing the production version of the long-awaited 200mph-plus LF-A coupé, and Mazda will display an updated RX-8 with a new-look nose.
