Second-hand motors purchased...
Second-hand motors purchased from independent dealers prompted more complaints from the public than any other goods or services in 2006. The group took 37,594 calls about used cars – 12,795 more than mobile phones. TVs were the third most complained about items.
More than 2,000 trucks...
More than 2,000 trucks and buses collide with bridges each year as drivers either forget the height of their vehicles or don"t see the warning signs. The infra-red sensors recognise high-sided vehicles as they approach, and trigger a special signal warning the driver to stop and find another route.
The most frequently struck railway bridge in Britain crosses the A52 Barrowby Road in Grantham, Lincolnshire. It has been hit by vehicles a staggering 151 times during the past decade - leading to road closures, congestion and train disruption every time.
In the last year alone, it has been struck on 38 occasions - more than three times a month on average.
