Keen to avoid a repeat...

Keen to avoid a repeat of the current model"s lacklustre sales, Vauxhall has made the new car far more stylish, and will offer it with seven seats, four-wheel drive and even a hybrid drivetrain. As the image in the current÷  mag shows, with a streamlined coupé-like shape, large alloy wheels and panoramic glass roof, it will be a distinctive executive express.

Beneath the rakish shape lies a new platform, to be shared with Saab"s forthcoming 9-7 SUV. Power will come from Vauxhall"s twin-turbo 2.8-litre petrol and turbodiesel V6 engines, along with a hybrid. Inside, the spacious cabin will boast a hidden third row of seats, while the emphasis will be on luxury throughout, with high-quality materials plus, as with the next Astra, a self-driving system. The new Signum will appear in 2009.
