The spiralling cost of petrol is causing an increase in the number of uninsured drivers, says the British Insurance Brokers" Association. The warning comes as one in four UK petrol stations is now charging 87p a litre. A spokesman for the association told Auto Express: "More and more people are driving without cover, or considering doing so."

It"s a hit for 6! These are the first official pictures of Mazda’s new 6 family, which is making its world debut at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
Available as a hatchback, saloon and estate, the model goes head-to-head with family car stars such as the new Ford Mondeo and VW’s Passat.
And Mazda has high hopes for the newcomer. It’s expected to build on the success of the current car, which helped transform the firm’s reputation in the UK. Bosses promise improved refinement, plus an enhanced range of petrol and diesel engines.
The car is longer and wider than its predecessor, with the hatch measuring 4,735mm in length and the estate version 4,765mm.
New underpinnings improve the ride and handling. The fully independent McPherson strut suspension is upgraded, with a stronger subframe and redesigned bushing giving greater steering accuracy and reducing road noise and vibration. RX-8 style electric power-steering is fitted, while the brakes also perform better, thanks to the introduction of larger front discs.
When the car arrives in the UK later this year, buyers will be offered a choice of 1.8 and 2.0-litre petrol engines, plus a new 2.5 unit. There is also an enhanced 2.0-litre diesel.
Prices have still to be confirmed – although Mazda isn’t being so coy about details of the 6’s latest baby brother. The new 2 range comprises three engine options and three trim levels, and it’s in showrooms now. Entry-level TS cars cost from ÷£8,499.
