Space inside is boosted even further by the use of drive-by-wire technology and a novel electric drivetrain rather than a conventional, engine-powered set-up. Each wheel hub has a 27bhp motor, and all four combine to produce a respectable 108bhp. Power is supplied by a compact lithium-ion battery pack, stowed beneath the floor.

It revealed the average...

It revealed the average cost of a family day out to the Birmingham NEC was a staggering í‚á£70. Even for a person on their own, the cost was í‚á£36.

The survey, conducted on the Auto Express website, is the first independent research into last month"s event. We received hundreds of responses from car fans keen to deliver their verdict on the new-style show.

They voted the "live action" format a hit, and far and away the most popular spectacle was the MINI Open Air Theatre, with 85 per cent of visitors rating it a huge success. The off-road course also got the thumbs-up - 75 per cent of voters scored it as excellent. An impressive 70 per cent of people went to at least one of the live action elements, and 90 per cent of them felt they should be included in any future British Motor Show.

Our research threw up plenty of comments which should give the organisers at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders food for thought .

Interestingly, the most common reason given by those who didn"t go to Birmingham was the cost of attending, particularly the í‚á£8.50 parking fee. There was also bad news for BMW; it was singled out for criticism by many people for not taking a stand at the event. One person said: "It should treat British car buyers with more respect."
