Luxury brand Bentley is simply flying at the moment. Not only has it recently unveiled its new Brooklands flagship (New Cars, Issue 999), but the hot Continental GT Speed is making waves, too. The only downside is that even the entry-level Flying Spur costs a huge ÷£117,500.

Were you fooled? BMW ran a newspaper advert on 1 April for a car without a steering wheel. But anyone who saw our Inside Story in issue 851 would have known this was the firm"s latest April Fool"s gag. A spokesman said: "Despite when it appeared, more than 4,000 people called us to ask about it. Others also visited the phoney website listed in the ad."

Honda is to build an...

Honda is to build an affordable hybrid - and Auto Express has all the details live from the Tokyo Show.

The new design takes inspiration from the CR-Z concept car and will feature an all new petrol/electric hybrid engine, a hatchback and five doors. Company sources say the new unit will be sub 1.6-litre. Although no performance or MPG figures have been announced, Honda is aiming to reduce emissions over a standard car of similar size by around 30 percent.

A completely new platform is being developed for the newcomer, meaning there is scope for a whole model range. Buyers can expect a sporty looking three door, and even a coupé. Production is due to start in late 2009.

A firm announcement is expected at the Los Angeles Motor Show, where Honda"s CEO and President Takeo Fukui will talk about the company"s efforts to launch more environmentally friendly cars.

Meanwhile company bosses also hinted that a diesel powered Civic Type-R is on the way. Using a tweaked version of the new i-DTEC engine it is expected to pump out around 180bhp. And with 420Nm of torque the hot oil-burner should have blistering mid-range pace. Visually the latest version will be identical to the petrol powered model. Sadly you"ll have to wait until the end of next year to get your hands on this frugal oil-burner.
