Holding a torch under the bonnet while working on a car isnтЂ™t ideal, as it leaves only one arm free to do the spannering. However, with Uni-LiteтЂ™s new headlight device you can use both hands at the same time.

The Focus LED Headlight has a special control to allow a larger or more defined spread of light тЂ“ ideal when probing around an engine bay. But while the various coloured LEDs and flashing modes provide plenty of variety, they arenтЂ™t especially useful. The single button meant toggling between them also became confusing. A pivoting head means you donтЂ™t have to bend your neck, but we thought the operation was clunky, and it made an annoying clicking noise. We liked the three straps, especially the over-the-head one, yet found the large power pack to the rear uncomfortable and heavy. At least batteries are included. This device does exactly what it sets out to; we just wish it did so with a bit more style and panache.
