Creator Hugh Thomson hopes the garment, which is worn like a body warmer, will cut accident injuries among youngsters. Hugh, from Wishaw, N Lanarks, said: "Kids often wriggle in the car, but the vest straps ensure the belt is always in the optimum position."

Having failed to win...

Having failed to win a single round for the first time since 1993, the Prodrive-run outfit is switching from Pirelli to BFGoodrich tyres, and will replace its existing Impreza (image) with a heavily revised car in the spring.

“We’ve had a tough year, but it’s over now,” said top driver Petter Solberg. “I think we’ll fight for victories again next season. We’re working flat-out to prepare the new car, and staying positive.”
