Delivering 500bhp, and...

Delivering 500bhp, and featuring an uprated chassis and slick-shifting six-speed semi-automatic gearbox, it’s set to take the fight to the BMW M5. However, with only subtle bodywork modifications, the cool new cat looks far more mild than wild.

Design firm Pininfarina...

Design firm Pininfarina has demonstrated just how serious its plan to become an independent car maker is. It used the Geneva show stands to pull the wraps off its new supermini ò€“ the BO concept, now badged BlueCar. This production-ready machine is a development of the study seen at last yearò€™s Paris show. Pininfarina claims it remains on track to launch the all-electric model in 2010 ò€“ at a price of less than Ò£15,000. Developed with support from French investor Bollore, the car uses advanced Lithium Polymer batteries, and has a range of 155 miles.

Guy Gittins from London...

Guy Gittins from London spotted the fast Ford when walking to work, and did a double-take when he noticed the five-door bodyshell. And as he was helpfully carrying a camera, the result is a world-first picture - but he got some strange looks in the process. "Nobody could understand why I would be photographing a Ford Focus!" he told us.

The five-door version of the ST will go on sale alongside its three-door brother early next year. However, the sporting badge won"t appear on estate or saloon variants of the latest Ford hatch, or the forthcoming folding hard-top model.

Whether you opt for the three-door or more practical five-door bodystyle, the ST won"t suffer from a lack of performance. Both hot hatches are powered by the same Volvo-sourced 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine. Delivering 217bhp to the front wheels, this unit is expected to propel the cars from 0-60mph in little more than six seconds. Prices should start at around í‚á£19,000.
