French manufacturer Peugeot is considering launching a new ultra-low-cost car to its line-up – and it’s likely to appear in UK showrooms later this year.

Described as a premium model for emerging markets, the newcomer is expected to cost around чЈ6,000. It will sit on an existing Peugeot platform, and use engines from elsewhere in the range.

And when quizzed about whether Peugeot was likely to replace its flagship 607 executive car, a spokesman said: “It may not be a large saloon” – hinting that an SUV could be built instead.
