Finally! The wraps are off Renault"s all-new Mégane...

The French firm was desperate to keep the stylish three-door machine a secret until its Paris show debut, but images found their way onto the Internet last week. Nonetheless, the hatch was finally unveiled in fine style by company boss Carlos Ghosn.

Christened the Coupé, the sporty hatchback gets a distinctive look all of its own, with a unique sillouhette and steeply raked rear screen.

The French firm was keen to emphasise how environmentally friendly the newcomer promises to be, with both 1.6-litre petrol models and entry level 1.5-litre dCi diesel cars offering CO2 emmissions of less than 120g/km.

On sale from November, the Ford Focus rival will be competitively priced, with the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol model starting from around ÷£14,000.
