The most recent in a long line of start dates for the scheme - which replaces handwritten certificates with a computerised form (image) - was November. Lithium is used in many rechargeable packs, such as those in the Tesla Roadster. But experts say supplies of the metal could run low as soon as 2015. Experts have been studying the huge salt flats in China and South America, where lithium is sourced, to see whether there is enough to cope with the anticipated surge in demand, reports the China Car Times. With the growth rate for consumer electronics and battery-powered cars so high, they reckon that by 2015 there would only be enough left to run a total of 1.5 million cars!

This is the Protectavest, and it"s designed to secure children in car and minibus seatbelts. Ever left your lights...

Ever left your lights on overnight and come out to a car that refuses to start the next morning? Now, thanks to Battery Brain, you can start the vehicle every time, no matter what equipment you forget to turn off.

The device simply attaches to your vehicleò€™s 12V terminals and comes with a push-button interior control or set of remotes. Installation can be carried out by any competent mechanic with the aid of simple tools.

If Battery Brain detects a drain on the system, the supply is disconnected, ensuring that the 12V wonò€™t completely discharge. That means thereò€™s always enough power to restart the engine.

There are four models ò€“ Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The latter two can disconnect the battery if there is an attempt to start the car when armed ò€“ acting as an immobiliser. All models in the range use an auto disconnect facility and can be reset manually. Finally, any settings such as the radio presets or clock are safe, thanks to a separate memory circuit.

Itò€™s suitable for use on all vehicles and the maker claims it will save users money, as they wonò€™t have to replace tired batteries as often.
