This is the all-new Genesis, which makes its world debut at last week"s New York Motor Show. The sleek saloon previews a luxurious new rear-wheel-drive vehicle, which is set to shake up the market and put the likes of BMW and Mer-cedes firmly in its sights when it hits showrooms next year.

Caught out on its first...

Caught out on its first photoshoot in New York, the four-door saloon seen here is the production-ready version of the Fusion, a model for the US market, which will be officially unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

The new car points the way for one of Ford"s most important European launches of the decade, the next Mondeo. That car is not due to arrive until the end of 2006 at the earliest, and prototypes have yet to emerge from the firm"s own secret test facilities. However, Auto Express has learned that the Fusion will be used to gauge international reaction to the plans Ford"s designers have for the next Mondeo"s looks.

The key features which will probably be carried over from the new car are the distinctive headlamps and wide chrome grille. Following the lukewarm reception received by the styling of the new Focus, bosses are likely to take more risks with the shape of its larger family car.

But what do you think of the Fusion"s look? Let us know and we will publish your opinions.
