But the negatives are...

But the negatives are equally numerous and dramatic; the car has a seemingly incurable addiction to petrol and oil, there are questions over its durability and there"s a perception that it"s horribly expensive to run. This, after all, is a model which, within the past month, has won the prestigious "Best Handling" and dubious "Worst Running Costs" awards in Auto Express"s annual reliability and satisfaction survey.

Car rental giant Hertz...

Car rental giant Hertz has relaunched its NeverLost programme, which allows drivers to hire a sat-nav unit, as well as a vehicle, from the firm. The company has updated the portable systems in its fleet, and all are now based on the Magellan Roadmate 760 and Maestro.

More than 1,500 of the new devices will be available across 240 Hertz rental locations, including 16 key airports and cities such as Barcelona, Frankfurt, Gen÷eva, London Heathrow, Milan and Paris.

First impressions are good, with the unit presented in a soft but sturdy carry case. The cradle sticks easily on your dash, and the device starts in seconds when powered up. On the road, the 4.3-inch touchscreen display makes for easy route planning, as navigating the menus is a real breeze. One of the features we liked most was that the volume would automatically adjust so the ver÷bal direction can be heard above traffic and wind noise at higher speeds.

Another handy feature is the text-to-speech, which announces street names in advance. For ÷£11.50 a day on top of your car hire, it looks good value.
