Codenamed the MX Micro Sport, the newcomer will be aimed directly at the Renaultsport Clio 182 and forthcoming Vauxhall Corsa GSi. The car is powered by the gutsy 150bhp 2.0-litre engine that made its debut in the Mazda 6, and should be capable of reaching a top speed of around 130mph.

Car fans in the Midlands are about to get their very own motor show. More than 30 brands will exhibit at the first Midlands Motor Show at Coventryò€™s Ricoh Arena on 1-2 August. Stars will include Vauxhallò€™s Insignia VXR, and the new Coupé from Norfolk-based sportscar firm Breckland.Ò 

And the event is not only drawing locals. Organiser Roy Bird said: ò€œTickets have been snapped up by visitors from as far away as the Lake District, Suffolk and Yorkshire.ò€Ò 

Other attractions include drifting, a 4x4 course, a charity auction of car-related gear and a test drive facility.Ò
