Can there really be...
Can there really be such a thing as an eco-friendly mud-plugger? Mitsubishi seems to think so, and claims its new Concept-cX proves it.
We gave you a glimpse of how the newcomer would look when we revealed the firmò€™s original sketches (Issue 973). But these shots mark its official unveiling, ahead of the carò€™s debut on the stands at next weekò€™s Frankfurt Motor Show.
As these images show, the Japanese manufacturer is rebuilding its image with a streetwise appearance, which takes cues from the Lancer Evo X super-saloon.
With its sharp lines, wheel-at-each-corner stance and an interior thatò€™s clearly aimed at the iPod generation, the car looks every inch a performance SUV. But under the metal, itò€™s far from the gas-guzzler critics might have expected.
The Concept-cX debuts an all-new generation of Clean Diesel engines for the company. Its four-cylinder 1.8-litre turbo delivers 134bhp at 4,000rpm and 280Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, while a VW DSG-style twin-clutch SST gearbox combines the control of a manual set-up with the ease of use of an automatic.
On top of its green engine, the model has floor mats and seatback panels made of recyclable plant-based plastics.
