Badged in the US as the Acura RL, our sources within Honda say that the model will revive the Legend name when it arrives in Europe next year. As we revealed last week, the car is powered by a new 3.5-litre V6 engine developing 300bhp, a unit first seen in the Dual Note concept vehicle from the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show.

The engine is mated to a five-speed sequential gearbox, which feeds power to all four wheels through Honda"s new SH-AWD system. The set-up, which stands for Super Handling All Wheel Drive, uses a series of small clutches to transfer power to whichever wheels have the most grip. Honda has yet to confirm whether the car will come to Britain, as the previous Legend was not a big seller, but our sources say the model is undergoing market assessment at the moment, and that a UK launch is likely.
