At first glance, this test model might look like a standard Avant, but compare the ride height with that of the A6 behind the prototype and it"s clear this is no ordinary load-lugger. Following in the tracks of the previous Allroad, the newcomer will have variable-height suspension, offering better ground clearance to go with the uprated quattro all-wheel-drive system.
Showroom models will be set apart from conventional A6 variants by chunky plastic body mouldings and unique alloys. Aiming to offer a more car-like alternative to the Q7 SUV, the Allroad will come as an Avant only. It"s likely to go on sale next summer, borrowing engines from the A6 range. That means there will be a high-performance V8, but the punchy 3.0-litre TDI oil-burner is set to be the top-seller.
