Police drivers are at risk because the equipment they wear round their waist can get in the way of their car seatbelt. It can push the lap-strap portion of the harness up, boosting the chances of them coming free of the belt - so-called "submarining" - in the event of a collision. Scientists in Sweden made the discovery after an officer died in an accident. Workmen who wear tool belts are also at risk.

As part of a worldwide event involving registered enthusiasts, UK members were last month offered the chance to order one of 300 special Launch Edition cars. That was before they were made available nationwide this month, and standard models hit showrooms in November.
Now, Mazda sources have told Auto Express that a massive 25 per cent of all orders taken during July were from new club members, who had only just signed up. Chris Neville-Parry, co-organiser of the group, explained: "This is simply great news for us. The MX-5 has always enjoyed a huge following of enthusiasts in this country, but even we have been surprised by the number of new members ordering cars."
Based on the flagship 160bhp 2.0-litre Sport, the Launch Edition features unique Velocity Red paint, 17-inch alloys and red leather trim. Each car will be individually numbered on the rear console. Priced at í‚á£19,995, it"s í‚á£1,095 more than the 2.0i Sport.
