You wait ages for a new Citroen, then two come along at once. As the French marque reveals its facelifted C4 hatch, the forthcoming C3 remains well under cover.

And the picture quality...

And the picture quality on the 3.5-inch monitor is surprisingly good. The image is sharply defined in bright light, yet still works well in the dark. The device’s wide-angle lens provides a view of about 2.5 metres across and around two metres from the back of the car, although this can be adjusted by realigning the unit.

It is very simple to install. The camera slips under the number plate, and power comes from the reversing lights. It should also be possible to fit the kit on most cars without having to drill holes. You don’t need to run leads through the length of the car, either, as pictures are transmitted automatically to the screen, which is powered via the cigar lighter. But a hard-wired supply is probably the best solution if you’re fitting it to your car permanently.

There’s also a choice of vent, screen or sun visor mounts. In our test, we used the supplied straps to attach the monitor to the visor. The display can then be flipped down for use when reversing.

With its clear images and easy installation, the Winplus system has a lot to recommend it. However, the price is considerably higher than conventional aftermarket sensor-type systems.
